YOUNG cattle breeders with the potential to shape the beef industry into the future will take part in a Herefords Australia Young Guns Conference in southern NSW next month.

The conference will be held at Cootamundra on January 20 and 21 and is open to young beef industry enthusiasts aged 20 to 40 years.
Conference co-ordinator Geoff Bush, Cootamundra, said the concept had been initiated by Herefords Australia in the 1990s.
“We hope to continue with the conferences every two to three years, underpinned by support from Herefords Australia,’’ Mr Bush said.
The draft program includes a visit to Teys Australia processing plant at Wagga Wagga, followed by a tour of the company’s feedlot, Jindalee, at Stockinbingal, and an evening dinner with a guest speaker.
Day two involves conference sessions with leading industry speakers on a range of topics including feedlot health, BREEDPLAN and marketing.
Among those planning to attend is the Cattle Council of Australia NAB Agribusiness Rising Champion for 2015, Kevin Stark, a 26-year-old commercial Hereford producer from Lake Mundi, Victoria.
“The conference is open to anybody and we have had interest from potential attendees from five states so far,’’ Mr Bush said.
“We are aiming to cater for young people aged 20 to 40 years and identified as having potential to shape the Hereford breed into the future.’’
