The 18-year-old has signed with the Sydney Sixers franchise to play in the inaugural cricket Women’s Big Bash League commencing in December.
Jodie is the daughter of Hay district farmers and proprietors of the SportFirst sport store in Hay, and is a graduate of the Hay War Memorial High School.
A talented batter and medium pace bowler, she said the approach by the Sixers was a big surprise.
“It was completely unexpected, it’s a good feeling,” Jodie said.
Her sporting ability has been recognised since she played soccer as a junior with the Hay Rams Soccer Club.
“She has amazing skill, and in my opinion, has the ability to represent Australia at the top level,” said her junior soccer coach Rob Ward.
Jodie will be rubbing shoulders with Southern Stars representatives Ellyse Perry and Alyssa Healy at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) during the Twenty20 competition.
Jodie has also led the AFL team from the Hay War Memorial High School to a championship win in the AFL Paul Kelly Cup.
Jodie’s cricket coach David Davies said her thirst for work at the nets was amazing.
“We send down thousands of balls to her in a session, but it is us who call time, not her,” he said.
